BIRUBI POINT SOUTHERN GATEWAY

Worimi, Anna Bay NSW

‘A Place to Connect, Learn, and Relax Amidst Stunning Coastal Vistas’

The Birubi Southern Gateway project enhances an already prominent cultural landmark, inviting visitors to relax, learn, and connect with others against the backdrop of an expansive landscape of land, sea, and sky. Improved access and amenity elevate the site as a local attraction for residents, whilst positioning Tomaree National Park as a premier regional and international tourist destination.

Moir Studio was engaged to create an iconic visitor precinct at the Southern end of the Tomaree Coastal Walk to compliment the northern end of Tomaree Headland and to showcase the diversity of this 27km coastline trail which includes volcanic peaks to the North, forest through the middle and a vast dune system to the South. The team, including Moir Studio as Landscape Architects, Northrop Consulting Engineers for the structural documentation, and Trigger Design as signage and interpretive consultants, collaborated with NPWS and Worimi Traditional Land Owners to deliver the project from concept design to construction.

The name ‘Birubi’, given by the Worimi peoples, means ‘Place of the Southern Cross’, reflecting its significance as an important gathering place and navigational tool marked by its location under the stars.
