‘Revitalising Community Connectivity, Safety, and Wellness with Inclusive Play Spaces and Trails’
Nestled in Cessnock's heart, the Bridges Hill Park responds to the urbanisation challenges by enhancing access to open spaces crucial for community well-being. With various inclusive amenities such as a bicycle circuit, bushwalking tracks, fitness equipment, and scenic lookouts, the civic park and playground fosters healthy lifestyles and social sustainability by improving connections within the CBD network. It features naturalised walking trails that blend seamlessly with the environment, enhancing connectivity from residential areas to the town centre and adherence to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles ensures a safe and welcoming environment, significantly reducing anti-social behaviour.
Environmental benefits are enhanced through sustainable initiatives like stormwater management, the use of permeable materials, and solar lighting, ensuring longevity and minimal maintenance costs. Collaboration with the local Council empowered community involvement and skills development, retaining grant funds within the region and fostering civic pride. Indigenous cultural principles were integrated throughout the design, culminating in a 'Welcome to Country' ceremony that celebrates the cultural significance of the regional play space.
Bridges Hill Park stands as a model of community-driven design, showcasing how high-quality open spaces can enhance urban culture, connectivity, and sustainability for future generations in Cessnock and beyond.
