‘Innovating Green Infrastructure for a Connected, Sustainable City in the Park’
The Open Space Master Plan Report provides a strategy for the ongoing management and enhancement of Dubbo’s existing open space, considering new urban release areas and the rising population needs. The Dubbo Open Space Master Plan Report utilises an innovative approach to development and delivery by applying the recommendations set by best practice examples within Green Web/Green Infrastructure policies and strategies.
The approach started with an extensive review of the existing open space assets, such as parkland, street trees, cycleways and pedestrian linkages with the aim of determining critical gaps in open space requirements and suggesting an implementation strategy that meets current and future needs. This practice unites the supply of open space with local demand for recreation and identifies priority linkages for an expanded and connected green web building on Dubbo’s “City in the Park” vision.
The analysis identified the need to better utilise operational land and drainage corridors, and infrastructure easements as essential and functioning parts of the green infrastructure network. The strategy aims to connect existing open space and destinations through networks of shaded cycle and pedestrian corridors and seeks to reinstate important ecological communities back into the LGA’s suburbs.
Moir Studio provided Dubbo Regional Council with a document that included: A set of Strategic Directions supported by research and mapping; Priority areas for street trees, cycle & pedestrian network; A Street Tree Master Plan; Streetscape Design Guidelines and Design Principles; and a Framework for Delivery.
