‘A Multi-Functional Park Embracing Site History with Natural Materials and Community Spaces’
Moir Studio built upon the concept design established by the Hills Shire Council and developed the detailed design and documentation for the 1.4ha Equinox Drive Reserve located within the Box Hill land release area. With four street frontages and a 12m drop over the site, the landscape setting and rural features provided inspiration to create a park respectful of the site’s past history and land uses.
The design outcome created a passive multi-functional play space with improved shade and amenity that provides gathering spaces and opportunities for community building. The Reserve features a natural-themed play area broken into a younger and older children’s play space, passive recreation, grassed kick-about space, picnic facilities, and a number of pathways within the site that connect the playground and grassed area, creating a loop path for children on bikes and scooters.
The design utilises natural materials, including sandstone log retaining walls, sandstone sculptures, mulch softfall, and native plantings.
Within its unique site narrative, Moir Studio have successfully created a recreational facility with its own sense of place, that of a growing, welcoming and inclusive community at Equinox Drive Reserve.
