‘Revitalising Newcastle's West End: A Vision for a Vibrant, Sustainable Streetscape’
Moir Studio was commissioned by Newcastle City Council to deliver a streetscape vision for Newcastle’s West End local area, with the purpose of revitalising the city.
With an analysis of the areas’s local character that included proposed streetscape upgrades for footpaths, laneways and cycleways, methods to enhance the function of the streetscape through the delivery of green nodes, pedestrian access, cycleways and transport connections, the plan provided a clear vision for the West End as a vibrant, liveable and sustainable gateway to the CBD,
The West End Stage 2 Streetscape Plan will provide safer active transport routes through the city, using a combination of separated cycleways and shared pathways to cater to all levels of users.
Improved footpaths, increased shade with additional street trees, and periodic green nodes that create opportunities for respite, alfresco dining, and other activities have increased pedestrian amenity.
The project went on Public Exhibition in February 2019, and has since been adopted by council.
