Moir Studio designed and documented the outdoor spaces of the new aged-care facility in Elermore Vale. This included integrating stormwater management with the landscape on site and providing significant visual screening to adjoining properties.

In addition, courtyards that form part of the dementia care facility were designed with the specific needs of these residents in mind. Planters with vegetables allow residents to participate in gardening to aid with relaxation and motor skill retention. A variety of seating options cater to the needs of residents, from quiet corners to more sociable spaces where residents can interact with family and each other.

Plants were selected to have a calming effect on residents and be low maintenance to cause minimal disturbance to residents.

The design included a red postbox and an old-fashioned phone booth to allow dementia residents a connection to their past and help provide a feeling of safety and security.
