‘Respectful response to preserving and enriching the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Worimi people’
Moir Studio was engaged by Port Stephens Council to prepare the detailed design and construction documentation of the Birubi Point Aboriginal Place Master Plan.
Following extensive consultation with key stakeholders, thorough analysis of the environmental factors and a careful review of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment, Moir Studio’s detailed design is a respectful response to preserving and enriching the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Worimi people.
The complexity of the site required sensitivity in providing the public with much needed play spaces and amenities within the spectacular setting. As a result, a culturally important headland site has been sensitively designed to allow visitors to gather in small numbers and take on the spectacular views of the ocean and expansive sand dunes.
A positive outcome of the project has been the ability for visitors to access and share culturally important places through dialogue and respectful relationships with Worimi representatives.
