‘Kau-ma: Honouring Aboriginal Heritage with Art, Reflection, and Connectiont Stunning Coastal Vistas’
Moir Studio provided full landscape design services for the Aboriginal Heritage Conservation Area (AHCA) for Sanctuary Residential Estate at Fletcher, named ‘Kau-ma’, meaning ‘To Gather Together’,
Moir Studio undertook significant consultation with the Local Aboriginal Group during the design development phase to develop ideas and themes that reflected the rich local history of the area and its surrounds.
Moir Studio worked with local artists to incorporate interpretive elements that reflected the previous land use. An animal kinship garden incorporating animal footprints shot-blasted into the concrete provides a subtle playful element for small children while having deep meaning to the Awabakal people. An artefact burial ground was incorporated into the design, with seating for quiet reflection overlooking the wetlands.
The final design resulted in a unique terraced park that provides expansive elevated views over the surrounding wetland environment from level lawn seating areas retained by natural stone. High on top sits the Eagle, which is the totem of the Awabakal.
