WHAT WE DO

From our studios in Newcastle and Sydney, our team delivers engaging, functional and sustainable landscape solutions through a combination of research, consultation, technology and innovation.

Guided by open communication and collaboration, we combine strong ideas with high‑quality presentation to deliver outcomes that reflect our clients’ vision and goals.

LANDSCAPE & VISUAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

Moir Studio is a leading industry provider of Landscape Visual Impact Assessments for renewable energy projects. Our extensive experience has enabled us to develop and refine robust processes and methodologies that, combined with our ISO 9001 certification, demonstrate our commitment to delivering assurance, accuracy and efficiency in both our assessments and the communication of their outcomes.

Our ongoing working relationship with both the policy and assessment teams at NSW DPHI ensure that our processes and methodologies are tailored to the current requirements and expectations. Through this engagement we can effectively anticipate risks and challenges and report back to Clients in suggesting meaningful avoidance and mitigation strategies for projects at an early stage.

Our team undertakes all aspects of the LVIA process, including fieldwork, GIS mapping, modelling, assessment, and visualisations, in-house. This allows us to adapt quickly to any changes in the project and efficiently test options with our clients without external delays and costs. Our experience and knowledge allow us to comprehensively identify project risks and offer industry-leading advice to our clients on realistic timeframes to ensure accurate programming can be set and met.

URBAN DESIGN & PLACE MAKING

Our team has extensive experience delivering urban design projects in metropolitan and regional areas. Our experience ranges from high-level strategic open space planning to town centre and precinct design. Our diverse team, with backgrounds in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, and urban design, helps us provide multi-layered in-house responses to complex briefs.

Moir Studio understands the significant role high-quality urban design has in enriching the amenity and sustainability of our towns and cities. As our population grows and residential density increases, the demand for increased public space grows. Studies have shown that access to natural landscapes has been proven to reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance overall well-being. It is critical that the design of these spaces is considered in the wider urban context and not just on a project-by-project basis to ensure long term sustainability. State Authorities, Local Councils, and communities are looking to public spaces to be multi-functional, inclusive, and adaptable with the ability to provide benefits to the while community as well as meeting ecological and environmental best interests.

The reinstatement of Green corridors as spaces for walking, cycling, and other recreational activities contributes to the physical and mental well-being of the community. These corridors help to regulate the urban microclimate, reducing the heat island effect through shading and cooling whilst providing habitats and safe passage for wildlife, and aiding in stormwater management by reducing runoff and preventing flooding

Landscape Architecture

Moir Studio recognises the vital role that functional and appealing open space plays within Australia's communities. We understand its importance in promoting environmental and social well-being and ensuring future resilience within a changing climatic environment. As an integral part of broader green infrastructure networks, open spaces are essential for planning and adapting to future environmental pressures.

These green infrastructures provide corridors and open spaces with multiple environmental benefits, creating appealing places for both residents and visitors.

With significant experience in delivering landscape architecture projects at a variety of scales, our approach to the design of active and passive recreation spaces is centred on the objective of caring for the environment. We create inspiring and unique user experiences while responding to the pragmatic complexities often involved in designing such precincts.

Our work over the last 22 years has given us substantial experience in research and problem-solving for the successful delivery of these projects, allowing us to implement best practices and provide exceptional value. We strive to design and implement open space plans that locate the project in the wider context and have the ability to guide future development strategies by respecting local character, establishing key connections, creating vibrant recreation and leisure opportunities, and integrating the natural environment.

STRATEGIC DESIGN & PLANNING

Our team offers professional, tailored advice in strategic planning and policy development. We provide clear, informed inputs that support overarching project and community goals, contributing to policies from Open Space and Greening strategies to Special Activation Precincts and Development Control Plans.

With a robust foundation in master planning and landscape architecture, our strategic inputs address outcomes that respond to cultural connection, integrate natural assets and improve connectivity and activation. Our capabilities include preparing landscape analysis reports and developing key principles for ongoing landscape integration and management. We focus on ensuring that our analyses provide tangible guidelines for ongoing sustainable development.
