WHO WE ARE

WE ARE MOIR STUDIO

Moir Studio is an integrated practice of talented and experienced professionals. Established in 2001 our team brings together a diverse global talent in landscape and urban design, architecture, environmental design and technology.

We collaborate and innovate to create outcomes that place natural ecosystems at the forefront; striving to integrate sustainable solutions that reduce the need for extensive human intervention and provide enduring benefits to communities. Our approach is to look beyond the site and consider the impacts of design on the wider systems, delivering imaginative and sustainable solutions for People, Place and Planet.

We are dedicated to creating well-articulated, high-quality public spaces that enrich the community.

People

At the heart of our work are the people we serve. Whether it's our clients, the communities we engage with, or our skilled team, we are dedicated to working in a way that reflects our core values. Our commitment to exceptional service delivery drives us to develop innovative solutions that achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients and the community. Ambitious and aspirational, we are dedicated to making a positive impact on people's lives.

Place

Respecting, connecting with, and designing in harmony with Country are core principles that fuel our innovation and vision. We honour the pre-existence and equal status of First Nations Australians by integrating the principles of Country into every aspect of our design process. By working as “co-authors” with the land, we thoughtfully consider its existing conditions, cultural heritage, and future potential. This approach is essential to our continuous journey of learning, unlearning, and evolving our practice.

Planet

Working together towards the well-being of Country and community, our place-based philosophy nurtures eco-centric legacies. When embarking on new ventures, our team assesses the entire project to explore how our contributions can enhance the overall outcome. We facilitate, advocate, and collaborate on every project, continually expanding our expertise in landscape and urban design, planning, architecture, and environmental technology. Our integrated, innovative solutions are dedicated to building healthy, sustainable communities.

Connection to Country

Our perception of Country involves a deep and multifaceted understanding of the relationship between land, people, and culture. It is founded on a profound respect for the land and all living things that dwell on it. We believe that Country is an acknowledgement of the interconnected systems that surround us and the recognition that as humans, we are part of a larger system that values everything equally.

Moir Research Facility
and Centre of Excellence

In 2021, Moir Studio took a significant step forward in our commitment to design excellence and continuous professional development by acquiring a small land parcel on the foothills of the Barrington National Park. The facility is dedicated to research and experimentation in the landscape including the re-vegetation of riparian and creek-lines, cultural burning, soil amelioration (acid sulphate), and the exploration of new construction methodologies.

The research conducted at the facility aims to advance the field of landscape architecture and have positive outcomes for the community.

Aptly named the Moir Studio Research Facility and Centre of Excellence, it is a valuable resource for our company and the wider community. The centre is committed to building partnerships with the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council and has a strong focus on sustainability, environmental responsibility, and respect for the Country.

The facility hosts regular working bees and studio wide team-building trips, which allow us to come together and work on larger projects while also facilitating professional development.

TECHNOLOGICAL CAPABILITIES

Moir Studio understands the importance of clear and legible outputs in the successful delivery of projects. We have invested significantly in specialist software and training to stay consistently up-to-date with industry trends. Our expertise in leading software packages such as ArcGIS, Vectorworks, Windpro, Rhino, Grasshopper, SketchUp, and Twinmotion provides us with a robust platform to communicate our work effectively and accurately, streamlining our management processes.

Our work in the renewables sector has allowed us to experience first-hand the challenges of capturing detailed and accurate survey information in remote landscapes. We have invested in an ultra-high-resolution LiDAR device and have 3 certified Remote Drone Pilots on our project team who are available to capture multiple data outputs, such as 3D point cloud surveys, high-resolution photography and videography, planimetrics, heat maps and more.

The team also frequently participates in strategic forums on the future of landscape architecture and urban planning and its role in changing the social landscape, as well as attending material and product information sessions to stay up to date with the latest product developments within the industry.

Integrating Research

At Moir Studio, we continually evolve with emerging trends in design and technology, utilising cutting‑edge tools to deliver innovative solutions. Working with Government organisations, Universities and school groups, our team undertakes rigorous design, research and data collection to develop solutions that address a wide range of challenges.

Examples include:

Provision of adequate shade, heat mitigation and lowering ambient temperatures within urban and public domain spaces
Integration of effective water harvesting techniques
Effective use of cultural burning practices, weed management and land management principles to lower maintenance, improve soils and habitat areas
Sensitive design solutions that integrate fauna corridors and habitat areas into a public domain environment

A key element of the research process is the development of measurable economic, environmental, social, and cultural indicators that can assess the project's outcomes. With a focus on evidence-based design, the lessons learned will continually enhance our team's growth as a landscape architecture practice.

This ongoing development will expand our understanding and knowledge base, which can be applied to future projects.

Philanthropy

At Moir Studio, we believe that kindness and contentment are intertwined, with acts of compassion benefiting both the giver and the recipient. We are committed to using our influence as a force for good, aligning our purpose with fostering positive relationships and making a meaningful impact on society.

Our commitment to philanthropy is reflected through various initiatives, including charity donations, sponsorships, internships, and pro bono work.

At Moir Studio, we believe that professionalism and quality management are the cornerstones of delivering exceptional value to our clients. Our Integrated Management System supports our commitment to these principles, ensuring that every aspect of our work meets the highest standards of excellence.
